지금 아주 살짝 NTU의 이메일계의 전문가가되어 있는 기분이고 약 90%의 성공률을 자랑하는 사람으로 글을 쓰니(매일 진짜 많이 썼는데 실패한 매일은 한개면 뭐 90프로지) 혹시 NTU에서(아 특히 수강신청 기간~) 또는 오기 전에 문제가 생겼다면 혼자 끙끙 앓지 말고 이 글을 보고 모두가 NTU faculty들과 소통에 성공했으면 좋겠다. 그런데 이메일을 몇 통 보내다보니 깨닫게 된 사실은, 이 학교가 교환학생의 편의를 우선적으로 봐주려고 노력하는 것인지(그럴리가 없을텐데 흠...) 아니면 원래 관대한 사람들이고 문의에 성심성의껏 해결책을 주려고 노력하는 것인지는 모르겠지만 원하는 바가 있으면 일단 이메일로 정중하게 요구를 하는 것이 맞다는 것. 나는 이메일을 통해 바라는 모든 것들을 받아 낼 수 있었지만 그렇다고 앞으로 계속 성공하리라는 보장은 없다. 그러나 일단 가만히 앉아 있는 것보다 실패하더라도 이메일을 보내는 것이 낫지 않은가?

1. 출국 전 - 수강 pre-allocation 기간에 0과목이 register 된 경우 (본 화면을 캡쳐해서 보여 줄 것)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I have been checking my course registration status via htts://wish.wis.ntu.edu.sg. I can successfully log in to this site but when I click on the button 2019-2020 Semester 1, I get the message that I have not registered/allocated any courses(screen shot attached, same result on my laptop).

I am attaching another file showing my list of courses approved. 

It seems like I'm the only one going through this problem, since I have asked other students from my school if they are suffering from this problem and they weren't. Please let me know what the problem was and how it can fixed. Thank you in advance for your kindest reply.

2. 기숙사 방 내에 있는 선풍기랑 에어컨 때문에 먼지가 많을 것 같을 때 (라고 쓰고 내가 선풍기를 청소하고 싶지는 않을 때라고 읽는다)

I am Sujeong Cho, an exchange student from South Korea, currently living in hall 11.

I moved in on 6th of August so about 2 weeks have passed since my arrival. I was very aware of the fact that hall 8 to 11 are going through renewal so there might be noise and dust. However considering the fact that our hall is not currently going through any upgrade job, I believe the responsibility is one person who has cleaned my room(Hall 11, 55-3-1080) prior to my arrival here. 

Due to dust on the fan and A/C in this room, my atopic dermatitis on joints of legs and arms has worsened, and dust allergic eyes swallow every morning. Is there any way to get the cleaning of the fan and a/c done as soon as possible? 

I am so sorry for the inconvenience.

이건 같이 교환하는 성현오빠(NBS - 경영) 이메일 대신 써준 것이다. 이메일을 썼고 allocate 받는 데 성공했다. 그리고 나서 이 오빠는 프로젝트와 시험이 너무 많다며 결국 드랍을 해버렸지...;;;

3. 정말정말 듣고 싶은 수업이 있는데 add/drop 기간에 아무리 기다려도 vacancy가 나지 않아 add 못할 것 같을 때

I have come to a conclusion to contact you becauase I believe you are my last chance.
Upon deciding NTU as my exchange school, I have went through numerous course review written by previous NBS students who had been here for an exchange. Since NBS is already renowned for its high quality in education, I had no doubt evey course would be valuable to me.
Although I was given various choices of courses to choose from,
'Strategic HR Management and Consulting' was THE course I wanted to take even before I landed here in Singapore.

Though such email like this may be bothersome, it would be an everalasting experience for me if I could take the course by any means.
Again, I am so sorry for such inconvenience but your generosity would be a great help.

4. 수업 시작 후 두번째 주에 add가 되어서 첫 몇주를 빠져서 교수님과 면담 잡을 때

Dear professor Jo-Ann Netto-Shek,

I am Sujeong Cho(Sue) in your 'Introduction to Children's Literature'(AAE28B) course.

I got this course registered last week so I missed out on previous two classes. So I was wondering if I could get some ideas on what the class is going to be about, and get some materials/handouts that were given in classes that I couldn't attend.

이 이메일은 우리 소예(EEE)를 대신해서 써준 이메일이다. 사실 어떤 이메일을 쓰던지 간에 내 편의를 위해 쓰는 경우가 많다. 이 수업을 꼭 들을 이유는 없는데 듣고 싶을 때, 내가 특정 주에 놀고 싶어서.(소예^^) 그러면 어떻게든 핑계를 만들어내고 잘 포장을 해야되는 것이다. 

5. 이미 Add/Drop 기간은 끝났는데 분반(index)을 바꾸고 싶을 때 -------- 실패

I am Soye Kim, an exchange student from S.Korea in EEE.

Last Sunday I got two courses, EE1002 and E2002L registered.

Due to my misunderstanding of course schedule that was shown in the image in STARS Planner, I am in a pretty ambiguous state. As you can see below, I was sure that E2001L had only two sessions throughout the semester since only Wk9 and Wk5 were explicitly written, but because E1002L had only WK5 written, I comprehended that there would be only one day lab per semster.However when I attended the E1002 lecture this Wednesday, professor then mentioned that the lab(E1002L) starts from week 5, meaning that it will be held every week until wekk 12.

Such email may be excessively bothersome but may I please change E1002L course schedule to Tuesday 1:30 class? I dropped my squash course in order to fit E1002L to Tuesday so that I could handle my workload as well as to improve the total work efficiency and completion quality. I await for your kindest reply.

NTU 교환 TIP 타임마

1. 사실 직접 만나서 이야기하는 것이 제일 좋겠지만 시간이 없다거나, 싱글리쉬가 부담스럽다면 이메일을 적극 활용해야한다. 싱가포르 사람들은 Bilingual이기 때문에 영어를 잘하지만 본인이 못 알아듣는다면 의사표현을 확실하게 할 수 있는 이메일을 잘 쓰자. 그러니까 한국에서 학교다닐 때 영어 필수 교양 뭐 이런거에서 이메일 쓰기 할 때 정성드려서 해볼 것!ㅋㅋ
